history of the manicure

The History of the Manicure

Interestingly enough, it has been known for ladies have been getting manicures approximately five thousand years back in India when the women there use to apply henna on to their nails like nail polish. The act of painting nails later then moved down to China where the female dowager empress Cix is known to have liked taking care of her long, beautiful nails.

The French manicure

The term manicure is a French word that comes from the terms “manu” which means hands and “cura” which means care. During the years 1920 to 190, manicures became increasingly popular in France. During these years it was known to be a fashion statement if you chose to paint the tips of the nails white and leave the rest of the nail untouched. This trend became so popular it was later named the “French Manicure”.

Other Types of Manicures Available

In the world we are living in today, we are all spoiled for choice. There are so many different types of manicures to get applied to your nails. Some of the most popular options include, but are not limited to:

Hot oil manicure

The hot oil manicure is known to be one of the most luxurious and relaxing types of manicures out there. This type of manicure is great for when your hands are left feeling brittle and dry. The hot oil manicure restores moisture into your fingernails and works as an exfoliator to remove all of the dead, dry skin from your hands.

Clients who book this service are required to soak their fingernails into heated natural oils. The oils used in this treatment leave your fingernails and hands with an extra natural shine without applying any nail polish to the nail.

– Acrylic manicure

Acrylic nails are best described as a combination of liquid and powder that is applied to your natural nail with a special brush. Once the mixture is applied to your nails, the nail technician will then proceed to shape the nail and apply a layer of base coat, nail polish, and then finally a top coat to seal the look.

Tammy Taylor Nails offers acrylic manicure services in all of our nail salons in South Africa. We also offer the service of soaking off and filing off the acrylic manicure too. Visit your nearest Tammy Taylor nail salon to find out more.

Soak off gel manicure

The soak-off gel manicure is a nail treatment that involves painting on gel soak-off nail polish onto your nails. Each layer of gel polish that is painted on is then cured using an ultraviolet (UV) light before another layer of gel soak-off nail polish is applied onto the nail.

We at Tammy Taylor Nails South Africa are proud to offer this service to our fellow beauty queens and young girls too. We also have a unique Acrylic gel hybrid nail polish that is exclusive to our nail salons only. This soak-off product is odourless and environmentally friendly too.
