How to Care for your Nails after a Beach Holiday

There is nothing like heading to the beach and putting your toes in the salty water after a long year of hard work. Feeling the waves washing over your feet and spending your days relaxing on the beach sands, just soaking up the sunshine, is rejuvenating for your soul, but it might not be the best thing for your nails.

Ideally, the care process should begin well before you head away for your trip. There are plenty of really easy things that you can do to protect your body from sun and saltwater damage, like using a strengthening product and making sure that you have a good quality mani-pedi.

Salty water, and that rough beach sand, can be quite damaging not only to your nails but also to your skin and your hair. So when you make your way home, one of the first things that you should do after unpacking, is to indulge in a little pamper sesh.

Salty water, and that rough beach sand, can be quite damaging not only to your nails but also to your skin and your hair. So when you make your way home, one of the first things that you should do after unpacking, is to indulge in a little pamper sesh.

To keep your nails fresh after your holiday, or to just give them a little post-holiday TLC, here’s a few easy things you can do:

Start with your cuticles

The saltwater and extra sun can cause your skin to dry out, especially around the cuticles. When you get home, start reviving your nails by rubbing a balm into the cuticles to soften the skin. This extra moisture will help to not only make the cuticles look refreshed, but it will also make this skin feel better too.

Neaten your cuticles

Once you have softened the cuticles, you can now neaten them by cutting back the dead skin or, if it is not too much skin, you can push it back to give the nail more room.

Exfoliate

Just like your face can do with some exfoliating every once in a while, your hands and nails can also do with the occasional rough rub down. Exfoliating will help to remove dead skin and it can also benefit your nails, but only if you’ve already removed your manicure.

Use a nail strengthening product

Since all that salty water and sunlight can do quite a bit of damage to your nails, you should make sure that one of the first things when you get home, if you are removing your manicure or your pedicure, is to apply a nail strengthening product. You should only use the best quality product and if you are concerned about not doing it right or not having the right sort of product, you can always head to a Tammy Taylor Nails South Africa salon where we can treat your nails for you.

Give your nails a break

For just a little while after your holiday, if your nails have really taken a beating, you should consider letting your nails “breathe” for a few weeks by not having a manicure or pedicure done. This will give your nails time to completely recover from any damage that might have been done.

To sign up for a franchise you can head over to the Tammy Taylor franchise page on our website where you can fill in the form. One of our consultants will be in touch to guide you through the process of owning your dream salon.
